Downtown Huntsville is about to get a little bit brighter thanks to sculptor Christopher Fennell, Arts Huntsville, and developers for The Avenue, Charlie and Sasha Sealy.

Fennell, who is from Alabama and known for his structural sculptures created from discarded or found objects, will be crafting two signature public art installations that will serve as a gateways to Downtown Huntsville titled “Light Tree” and “Light Arch” as a part of The Avenue development.

Featuring street lights from neighborhoods throughout Huntsville, and mirroring the shape of the Roman arch over St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church (across from Jefferson St.) the works will symbolize an enlightened city – a place where diverse groups of people live and work together, exchanging ideas.

The project will also utilize train rails found on the construction site for The Avenue, thereby incorporating the history of the site into the sculpture itself and merging the past with the present and the future.
