Clean Juice To Open First Alabama Location At Twickenham Square!

As promised, we have another exciting announcement about the Shops at Twickenham Square! Alison Dennis, who was featured in our recent Cabana Wax blog, has more news to share with Huntsville. And this time, it involves cold-pressed juices, açaí bowls, avocado toast, and other healthy fare.

“Our team can’t wait to open Alabama’s first Clean Juice location at Twickenham Square,” said Alison, co-owner and general manager of Clean Juice. “In Huntsville, we have a community that is always looking for ways to improve their health and wellness, and our store hopes to help people achieve some of their health goals in a fun and convenient way.”

A 1,200 square foot space, Clean Juice plans to open in August of this year! Very soon, people near the downtown, medical district, and Blossomwood neighborhoods will be able to drop in for a fresh juice and açaí bowl, or a pick up a quick bite from the shop’s grab-and-go bar.

The new eatery will be open:

Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Saturday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Sunday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

What is Clean Juice?

When husband and wife team Kat and Landon Eckles were looking for a career change, the duo developed the idea of creating a juice bar that focused on providing fresh, organic options along with a guest-focused experience.

In 2015, the Eckles opened the original Clean Juice store in Huntersville, North Carolina. Three short years later, Clean Juice now has more than 100 locations throughout 16 states, with plans to continue expanding.

“The Eckles bring a fresh, trendy vibe to the Clean Juice brand that’s made it stand out in the market,” explained Alison. “They have created something truly unique, because it’s ‘health food’ that not only tastes great but is actually healthy. Customers can rest easy knowing that we’re using 100% USDA Certified Organic ingredients—meaning everything we serve, from our celery to our coffee to our cinnamon, is free from chemicals, pesticides, and GMOs. With its extensive menu of juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, and toasts, Clean Juice provides nutritional information for all of its offerings online.

Clean Juice has drummed up praise in publications like Huffington Post, Inc., and Bustle Magazine since its opening. In fact, the business was voted “Fastest Growing Franchise for 2018” by Franchise Gator; its success shows no end in sight.

Alison’s involvement with Clean Juice actually came out of wanting to situate Cabana Wax at Twickenham Square. She and her husband Garrett found the perfect space next to Beaute Nail Spa, but it had twice the amount of square footage they needed.

“As luck would have it, our friends Allie and Todd Hose, and Todd’s brother and sister-in-law, Tyler and Jessica Hose, had known the Eckles for years and had been awaiting the right opportunity to open a Clean Juice store in Alabama,” said Alison.

“After the Hoses introduced us to this awesome concept, we met with the coporate office and immediately knew we wanted to be part of the business. So, we pitched the idea of incorporating Clean Juice and Cabana Wax into the space, and the landlord agreed to let us divide it.”

It was decided that each of the six would have ownership in Clean Juice and contribute their unique skills to the project.

“Allie is a marketing professional, Todd is a former commercial real estate agent, Tyler works in finance, Jessica grew up immersed in a family of successful business owners, and Garrett and I are lawyers,” Alison shared. “More importantly, all six of us wholeheartedly believe in the concept and are passionate about making Twickenham one of the brand’s best stores.”

“On a macro level, the people of Huntsville are smart and they care about their health,” said Alison. “This is evident from the amount of interest Huntsvillians show in fitness and clean eating. On a more micro level, our space at Twickenham Square is surrounded by businesses that serve similar interests. People who want a 30-minute workout at 9Round or a quick service at Cabana Wax are likely to be interested in fast, healthy food too.”

Clean Juice will also benefit those who live and work near Twickenham who have awaited a convenient spot for coffee and breakfast items beginning at 7 a.m. on weekdays.

“The founders of Clean Juice created the business with very specific core values,” said Alison. “One of the most important tenets behind the brand is that we respect others by respecting their time. We want to be a place that you get in and out of quickly without sacrificing food quality.”

Each day, the juice bar will have a grab-and-go bar stocked and ready to go upon opening.

“The main takeaway is that you come first and side work comes second,” clarified Alison. “There will never be anything more important than you when you’re in our store.”

Cabana Wax Coming To Twickenham Square!

“Necessity is the mother of invention,” quoted Alison Dennis, Founder of Cabana Wax. “Waxing should not be reserved for special occasions. It should be convenient and affordable. That’s why I’m opening Cabana Wax in Twickenham Square—to create an experience that truly puts the customer first and makes a consistent waxing routine realistic for more people.”

Located off Gallatin Street near Huntsville Hospital, the Twickenham Square shopping center is already home to well-known spots like Cajun Steamer, Mei Wei, Taco Mama, Pants Store, the Artisan apartments, and—of course—Publix. But a new business, Cabana Wax, is scheduled to open in early August of this year!

The 1,000 square foot studio will have six treatment rooms and receive clients:

Monday – Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Friday 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sunday Noon – 6 p.m.

A wax studio designed from the consumer’s perspective

Alison, a 29-year-old entrepreneur and former lawyer, made plans to create the new wax studio after moving to Huntsville in 2017. “I discovered the quick and affordable waxing services I was accustomed to in larger cities were not readily available,” she said.

With the idea of a new wax studio budding in her mind, Alison sat down and made a list of ways a hypothetical new studio could optimize the customer experience.

“For example, Sunday is a big ‘get-things-done’ day for me,” she stated. “Most spas are closed on Sundays, so I knew I wanted my studio to be open every day. That would make it easier for clients to find times that worked for them.”

“I also wanted to keep it simple: no memberships, no introductory rate followed by a steeply increased rate on the second visit—just a consistent low price with no obligations.”

Alison also wanted a centralized location near other businesses that would have great synergy with her own and would be convenient to the downtown, Blossomwood, and medical district neighborhoods. For her, the Shops at Twickenham Square was the perfect place to develop her vision.

“The foot traffic at Twickenham is incredible, and I knew Cabana Wax would feed off nearby businesses like 9Round and Publix,” Alison explained. “In addition to taking clients by appointment, we will be a great option for walk-in clients who want to take advantage of our services between errands. And our business model creates a situation where that’s actually possible.”

In addition to its convenient location and hours, Cabana Wax also promises affordability.

“It’s hard for many people to pay $90 a month for basic beauty habits like hair removal,” said Alison. “By cutting down the cost on all of our services, we are giving more people the opportunity to try new things and make them part of a routine they can afford to sustain. At our prices, a customer can get a high-quality Brazilian wax and lash perming service for the same cost as just a Brazilian at other spas.”

Waxing services at Cabana range from $5 to its signature $50 Brazilian. Customers can also try a few other services the Cabana Wax team has carefully selected as complements to its full-service wax menu, including dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, lash perming and lash tinting, all of which will be offered for less than the typical cost.

With plans to open by August, the team has already secured a studio manager, an experienced esthetician who will train Cabana’s staff to maintain the brand’s promises from day-to-day.

Domaine South Relocates To Downtown Huntsville Square!

“The best wines are the ones shared with friends.” – Unknown

“There’s a French term that describes our type of shop,” explained Kristian Denis, Curator and Co-Owner of Domaine South. “It’s called ‘cave à manger’, and Paris is dotted with many neighborhood spots like ours. Yes, we are a fine wine shop. But we will also have small plates, coffee, tea, locally made goods, cookbooks, and more. Domaine South will be the perfect place on the square to unwind at any time of day.”

Husband and wife owners Kristian and Mike Denis first opened Domaine South’s doors in 2015 on Cleveland Avenue but quickly outgrew the space. After relocating next door, the business took off as they added artisanal cheeses to the menu and began to offer locally made art, pottery, and other small gifts.

Now, the couple plans to add an innovative wine-by-the-glass program to the business. But first, they needed to find a location that would make the feat possible.

“We looked at adding it to our current space, but we quickly discovered there was no way to make it work the way we wanted,” insisted Kristian. “It became a matter of waiting for the perfect space to open up, and we’ve always had our eye on Downtown Huntsville proper.”

The cozy new shop on the square will be in a 1,200 square foot space on the first floor of 103 North Side Square. Hours will be from mid-morning until after dark, and they are tentatively scheduled to open in July of this year!

Our focus sets us apart.

With a spotlight on smaller production and old-world wines, Domaine South strives to fill its shelves with thoughtfully curated selections. They have been building their knowledge since the 90s through experience at wholesale companies and creating wine lists for restaurants.

“My father was in the military and I grew up in Europe,” said Kristian. “That’s where I was first exposed to an appreciation for quality wine. I believe the team at Domaine South has a unique depth of experience in both the wine and food industries. We always encourage customers to bring in their menus so we can help them find the perfect pairings for a dinner party or event.”

At Domaine South, you will find a wide range of wines from France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Greece, California, Oregon, Washington, and much more. If it passes the rigorous testing of the curators, it makes it to the shelves for all to enjoy.

“Almost every wine we carry is sustainably grown, organic, or biodynamic,” stated Kristian. “A large part of ensuring the quality of wine starts with how it’s being grown. We pay attention to that and always take it into consideration.”

For us, it’s about bringing people together.

The future wine bar at the North Side Square space will offer downtown residents and professionals another place to relax, connect with friends, or simply pick up a bottle of wine for dinner on the way home. There will also be an outdoor patio space and seating inside.

“Our new location will allow us to better serve our guests with even more offerings,” assured Kristian. “We will have the new wine bar—of course—where people can order wine by the glass. But we will also have charcuterie, cheeses, coffee, tea, desserts, and a small brunch on the weekends. We plan to add more to our retail side of the business with even more locally made gifts.”

The wine shop also hopes to be the go-to spot for supplies when it comes to popular Downtown events like Concerts in the Park.

Domaine South plans to source its coffee, tea, and desserts from Southern makers in order to preserve its support of locally made goods and Southern hospitality.

“We want to be here for any and all questions our customers have,” guaranteed Kristian. “We care about passing on that Southern hospitality and doing everything we can to find you the perfect wine.”

Domaine South is still open at its current location on Cleveland Avenue at AM Booth’s Lumberyard and will continue to be open until its move to the downtown square.

Clachic Boutique and 81 Home, Gift & Glam are located at the Clinton Row Shops, a group of downtown storage units that were transformed into retail in 2014.

At the shops, you will find passionate makers and shop owners who sell everything from handmade jewelry and monogrammed accessories to yoga classes and local art. Now with a new phase of complete build-outs taking place, Clachic Boutique and 81 Home are the first stores to be operating with a brand new look.

Sonoma Shoppe at Purveyor

An all-new neighborhood wine and cheese shop, Sonoma Shoppe can be found at The Avenue apartments inside the hugely popular Purveyor Huntsville. And although Sonoma Shoppe is connected to Purveyor, it is its own entity.

Lined with a beautiful wine wall, Sonoma Shoppe has everything you’d need for a perfect picnic. Come shop from a selection of cheeses, chocolates, crackers, produce, vinegar, cookies, olives and olive oils—the list goes on and on. They even have a fridge where they keep chilled wine, root beer, kombucha, and more refreshments. Somona Shoppe is adding new inventory every day!

Wheelys Mobile Café

When exploring Big Spring Park, you may run into the newest (and smallest) café on the block. Wheelys Café usually parks on the West side of the Historic Square near the park entrance and they are always serving up something new.

Wheelys calls itself a “new kind of coffee chain” that operates on a bike-powered cart. As the “world’s smallest café”, they also offer an assortment of teas, chips, desserts, small snacks, hot food, and soft drinks. You can be sure you’ll get the perfect afternoon pick-me-up or a delicious wake-up call on your way to the office.

Follow Wheelys on Facebook to see when and where they will be out and about. You can also see what goodies they will be serving at certain Downtown Huntsville events! At the Paddle the Canal Festival, for instance, Wheelys had lunch ready with a menu of tacos, Spanish rice, and quarter-pound hot dogs. Delicious!

Holmes Avenue Becomes Two-Way Road

Recently, Holmes Avenue converted into a two-way street bringing numerous benefits to commuters and pedestrians alike. The three-block stretch of Holmes between Jefferson and Lincoln now mirrors Clinton Avenue’s two-way traffic.

The change helps traffic move much easier downtown and makes the experience for shoppers and restaurant-goers much more enjoyable and easy to navigate.

Light On Yoga Fitness Continues to Grow

Light On Yoga Fitness, located at the Shops at Clinton Row, has expanded from its original 200 square feet to 750 square feet during its first year of business. In fact, the yoga studio has expanded a total of three times and has hopes to expand even more very soon.

Cathy Lighton, owner of the studio, was the only instructor when the business began. Now, the team is made up of seven yogis who teach various methods and styles of yoga.

One of the most popular classes at Light On is the Aerial Yoga class where students use one of the five silks that have been added to the space. They also offer a private Lyra Hoop class.

Kundalini Yoga is the newest addition to the schedule of classes. It incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation and chanting of mantras. Very soon, the studio will host an Acro Yoga Workshop and an Arm Balance Workshop, as well.
