The Cuban Café will serve guests six days a week and is tentatively scheduled to open in early August of this year. The hours will be:

Bold, Fresh Flavors in Every Bite

What makes The Cuban Café unique? According to Jessi, operating manager and co-owner, it’s the years of training in the restaurant industry, authenticity, and soul that goes into every dish.

“This is the way I was taught to cook as a child, so I have been making these dishes all my life,” explained Jessi. “There’s something so special about Cuban food and the way it makes you feel. Cilantro, garlic, peppers—you can taste every ingredient and appreciate what it brings to the meal.”

For years, Jessi and Andy had the dream of opening a café that served the fresh and bold flavors they grew up with. And now, Jessi is inviting others to discover the delight of Cuban cuisine.

“We will, of course, have a traditional Cuban sandwich made with roasted pork, sweet ham, pickles, and swiss,” assured Jessi. “It’s one of our favorites and we are thrilled to serve it alongside other types of sandwiches and many other menu items including ropa vieja, picadillo, and much more.”

Ropa vieja is Jessi’s favorite dish to eat when visiting family in Miami. She explained that the name of the dish translates to “old clothes” in Spanish, a term that describes the look of the meat once it’s prepared.

“It’s a beef stew that includes meat shredded like old clothes,” she laughed. “It has meat, veggies, red sauce, and spices. When it’s homemade, the flavor will almost smack you in the face. It’s delicious.”

There will also be plenty of desserts to choose from on The Cuban Café menu, like Jessi’s famous flan.

“It’s the best flan I’ve ever had in my life,” complimented Andy. “We beg her to make it for every family event—they are never complete without it. I know guests are going to love it.”

The future home of The Cuban Cafe!

Enjoy the Sights, Sounds, and Flavors of Cuba

Homemade fare isn’t the only reason to visit The Cuban Café—there’s much more to experience. For instance, there will be a decorated patio where patrons can smoke cigars and sip a craft cocktail while listening to the smooth sounds of drums, guitars, bongos, and trumpets playing in the background. Latin music will play an important role in the overall atmosphere.

“We want The Cuban Café to be more than a place you drop by for a good meal, although it will be that,” clarified Andy. “Our patio will be one of the most comfortable spots in the café. We want people to be able to close their eyes and feel like they are in Cuba or Miami. We keep using the word ‘authentic’, but that’s really what we are going for. Sharing these parts of the Cuban culture is something that’s special to us.”

Andy also shared that live music may be at the café during special occasions and events.

“Grab a mojito or a Cuban sandwich and hang with us for awhile,” invited Jessi. “We are a place that everyone in the family can enjoy. And we are just around the corner for all of our Madison customers.”

In the End, It’s About the People

For Jessi, nothing excites her more than opening the doors and getting to know her guests.

“We’ve wanted to bring this café to life for years,” shared Jessi. “So we have put a lot of planning and hard work into making sure it’s exactly what we envisioned. You can find Cuban sandwiches in many places—and they are all delicious. But we wanted to share them with traditional ingredients, prepared in a way that stood the test of time in our own family. We love Madison and Huntsville, and we are eager to open so they can try our recipes.”

Jessi and Andy have been part of the Madison/Huntsville community for 10 years. After one visit, the couple immediately fell in love with the area and decided it was the perfect place to raise a family.

“The first time we visited ten years ago, we had 70-degree weather, a tornado, and snow flurries all within four days,” joked Andy. “We love the colors and the seasons here, but more than anything we love the people and the family atmosphere.”

The duo also mentioned the growth of the area and said they hope the new café will be a player in the continuing progress of the city.

“We wanted to create a place that brings the community together to enjoy great food and fun,” said Jessi. “Madison and Huntsville have some amazing restaurants—we eat at them frequently. We are honored to soon be a part of such a diverse, quality group of restaurateurs.”

“Our roots are in Miami, but we have made Madison our home,” said Jessi. “This is a way for us to invite our friends to experience something they may not have had the chance to experience before. Whether you’re coming to grab a bite, hang out at the bar, or relax on our patio, we want you to leave feeling refreshed, happy, and—of course—full of comforting Cuban cooking.”

New “Williamsburg Plaza” Development Coming To Madison!

Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate Group is proud to announce that a new three-unit development is coming to the corner of Nance Road and Highway 72 near the city of Madison!

The 8,200 square foot “Williamsburg Plaza” is set to begin construction in early 2018 and already has two confirmed tenants—Bank Independent and Aspen Dental.

“We’re very happy to share the news about this location with our customers, neighbors, and friends in Madison County and beyond,” says Macke Mauldin, President of Bank Independent. “We’ve listened to our customers who travel Highway 72 to work or shop in the area and who have asked us to open a sales office here. Our 28th office will bring Bank Independent’s convenient and truly personalized customer service to the Madison community.”

Wesley Crunkleton and Zac Buckley handle the leasing of the project and say the state-of-the-art bank office will be the perfect anchor.

“Williamsburg Plaza will be a great addition to one of Madison’s busiest retail corridors,” said Wesley. “The site’s accessibility and strong visibility make it an ideal location for Bank Independent to serve its clientele with quality customer service. Aspen Dental will also be joining the development, and we look forward to releasing more information on the leasing of this project as it becomes available.”

Although the branch will feature Bank Independent’s signature Colonial Williamsburg exterior, the interior will offer customers modern technology and conveniences, including a tech bar for tablet banking, a deposit ATM, and cash recyclers for more efficient and faster transactions.

The branch will provide the bank’s full range of deposit and lending services with universal bankers, sales officers, and representatives from the business banking and mortgage teams.

Stay tuned as we release the information on the third and final tenant to join Williamsburg Plaza!

Focus Physiotherapy Opens Second Location Near Madison!

“When it comes to physical therapy, there is a large spectrum of services available to those who need it,” said Jonathan Zecher, Director of Clinical Education at Focus Physiotherapy. “At Focus, we aim to go beyond generic exercises and modalities like hot and cold packs. A client’s unique issues call for a tailored, individualized approach. We take pride in providing that level of service.”

The desire to improve the practice of physical therapy propelled Jonathan and his colleagues, Chad Hobbs and Mandy Teng, to bring Focus Physiotherapy to life. In 2015, Jonathan and Mandy opened the doors at their first clinic and soon found that they needed a larger facility to operate at peak performance. And now, the clinic has reached a new milestone—a second location near Madison off Highway 72.

“We do things differently here,” explained Mandy, Director of Patient Services. “Our therapists focus on a set of values and standards when working with each patient. It’s much more than metrics and numbers. We want to empower our patients to take control of their own wellness.”

Brought together by their shared passion, the team at Focus is heading the charge in offering physical therapy that’s anything but “one-size-fits-all.” Instead, they strive to provide a customized, specific program for each client.

The Spectrum of Physical Therapy

Simply put, not all physical therapy is the same. This is a belief that the Focus team has brought to the forefront when executing patient care and designing programs.

In fact, the clinic currently has some of the only therapists in North Alabama certified in specialty treatments like the Schroth Method for scoliosis and Vestibular Therapy that is specific to treating issues, such as vertigo and dizziness.

“If you have lower back pain, the same ten exercises that worked for someone else may not work for you,” said Jonathan. “All of our therapists are trained in what’s called ‘manual therapy techniques.’ It’s a hands-on approach that aims to reduce pain, enhance mobility, and increase muscle function.”

With an extensive background in physical therapy—more than 17 years—Jonathan has experienced the discipline of PT from many perspectives.

“I’ve always had the drive to push the envelope when it came to physical therapy,” said Jonathan. “The best therapy experience comes when a positive clinical experience is offered in a warm, welcoming environment. We will certainly carry that over to our Huntsville West location.”

As Director of Patient Services, Mandy took the lead in creating a friendly space that’s attentive to patients’ needs at Focus.

“We aren’t just treating them [patients] as another person walking through our door,” said Mandy. “Our team does a great job of developing relationships. We get to be there as patients progress and attain goals they set for themselves. Whether it’s returning to their favorite sport or holding their grandchildren again, we understand how important it is to help make those goals reachable.”

In addition to investing in its patients, the clinic also puts attention on helping its therapists and support staff grow as well.

“Part of my job is to mentor our therapists and help them develop their clinical skills,” explained Jonathan. “When they join our team, they commit to a 3-5 year structured curriculum to advance their skills.”

“Exactly,” Mandy added. “We each spend time mentoring our team, not only in the clinical aspect of things but also in the business and customer service side. Our goal is to create a team where everyone is motivated and autonomous. That’s the kind of work environment we all want to build.”

Why Another Location?

“By expanding, we can serve a broader client base throughout North Alabama,” clarified Jonathan. “We felt like the corridor on Highway 72 was an ideal spot because it’s convenient for clients who may be driving to and from Huntsville for work. We will be in a spot that can serve patients coming from Harvest, Athens, or Monrovia.”

Jonathan further explained that physicians in the Madison area had been pushing for Focus to expand—they were ready to send patients their way.

“In regards to our growth, I think it’s a testament to the strength of the relationships we have built over the years,” affirmed Mandy. “Physicians want to send their patients somewhere they can rely on the quality of care they will get. We try to be the whole package here—targeted therapy, great customer service, and economical options.”

It’s Just The Beginning

It won’t be long before Focus expands even further across the North Alabama region.

“We have had plans of expanding since the day we opened in Huntsville,” shared Mandy. “This new location near Madison is just the first step in a much larger movement. We will continue to push ourselves and create more options for our patients. Their success is what makes this job so rewarding.”
