5 Fun Updates In Downtown Huntsville!

One of the most exciting things about Downtown Huntsville is its focus on adding new and interesting concepts to the area. Whether it’s a new shop opening or the addition of an original mural, you’re sure to discover something fun each time you explore.

This week, we’ve put together a quick update on some of the latest additions and changes that have taken place in downtown over the past few months. Stores have expanded and evolved, new fitness classes have been added, and there’s even a new shop at Purveyor Huntsville!

Here are some things you should check out next time you’re enjoying a day downtown:

Clachic Boutique and 81 Home, Gift & Glam Expansion

If you’ve visited Clinton Avenue, you know it’s home to many unique retail shops. As Downtown Huntsville’s shopping scene continues to grow, it’s exciting to watch local entrepreneurs succeed in growing their business.

Clachic Boutique and 81 Home, Gift & Glam are located at the Clinton Row Shops, a group of downtown storage units that were transformed into retail in 2014.

At the shops, you will find passionate makers and shop owners who sell everything from handmade jewelry and monogrammed accessories to yoga classes and local art. Now with a new phase of complete build-outs taking place, Clachic Boutique and 81 Home are the first stores to be operating with a brand new look.

Clachic Boutique is a lifestyle brand mirrored after specialty boutiques in Europe that sell scarves all year round. Now, the brand has progressed to sell a variety of affordable women’s accessories and clothing including jewelry, hats, purses, and much more!

81 Home, which shares the space with Clachic, has gifts for the whole family including home décor, apparel, accessories, and small gifts.

You can follow Clachic and 81 Home, Gift & Glam on social media for the latest updates and available inventory.

Sonoma Shoppe at Purveyor

An all-new neighborhood wine and cheese shop, Sonoma Shoppe can be found at The Avenue apartments inside the hugely popular Purveyor Huntsville. And although Sonoma Shoppe is connected to Purveyor, it is its own entity.

Lined with a beautiful wine wall, Sonoma Shoppe has everything you’d need for a perfect picnic. Come shop from a selection of cheeses, chocolates, crackers, produce, vinegar, cookies, olives and olive oils—the list goes on and on. They even have a fridge where they keep chilled wine, root beer, kombucha, and more refreshments. Somona Shoppe is adding new inventory every day!

If you’re having a perfect night at Purveyor and you fall in love with a wine that you simply can’t live without, head over to see if Sonoma has it in stock. You can take it out of the store inside your brand new wine purse, courtesy of Sonoma Shoppe.

Hours for Sonoma Shoppe are:

Monday – Wednesday (Noon – 7 pm)

Thursday – Saturday (Noon – 8 pm)

Wheelys Mobile Café

When exploring Big Spring Park, you may run into the newest (and smallest) café on the block. Wheelys Café usually parks on the West side of the Historic Square near the park entrance and they are always serving up something new.

Wheelys calls itself a “new kind of coffee chain” that operates on a bike-powered cart. As the “world’s smallest café”, they also offer an assortment of teas, chips, desserts, small snacks, hot food, and soft drinks. You can be sure you’ll get the perfect afternoon pick-me-up or a delicious wake-up call on your way to the office.

Follow Wheelys on Facebook to see when and where they will be out and about. You can also see what goodies they will be serving at certain Downtown Huntsville events! At the Paddle the Canal Festival, for instance, Wheelys had lunch ready with a menu of tacos, Spanish rice, and quarter-pound hot dogs. Delicious!

Holmes Avenue Becomes Two-Way Road

Recently, Holmes Avenue converted into a two-way street bringing numerous benefits to commuters and pedestrians alike. The three-block stretch of Holmes between Jefferson and Lincoln now mirrors Clinton Avenue’s two-way traffic.

The change helps traffic move much easier downtown and makes the experience for shoppers and restaurant-goers much more enjoyable and easy to navigate.

Light On Yoga Fitness Continues to Grow

Light On Yoga Fitness, located at the Shops at Clinton Row, has expanded from its original 200 square feet to 750 square feet during its first year of business. In fact, the yoga studio has expanded a total of three times and has hopes to expand even more very soon.

Cathy Lighton, owner of the studio, was the only instructor when the business began. Now, the team is made up of seven yogis who teach various methods and styles of yoga.

One of the most popular classes at Light On is the Aerial Yoga class where students use one of the five silks that have been added to the space. They also offer a private Lyra Hoop class.

Kundalini Yoga is the newest addition to the schedule of classes. It incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation and chanting of mantras. Very soon, the studio will host an Acro Yoga Workshop and an Arm Balance Workshop, as well.

If you book a class at Light On Yoga, be sure to get a picture of the new angel wing mural painted by artist Robert Bean.

5 Office Amenities That Boost Productivity And Employee Satisfaction

Many people are familiar with the perks that come your way when working for a company like Google. The unique office amenities offered to employees have been the topic of much discussion on respected websites like Business Insider, Forbes, and many others.

Let’s face it. Who doesn’t love the idea of adding relaxation rooms, breakfast bars, on-site gyms, and a team of massage therapists ready to relieve the daily stress of office life?

But adding amenities like these may not work in every business setting. While some companies may benefit from incorporating an arcade room—like at the LinkedIn headquarters—others only need to focus on the amenities that will have a positive impact on their bottom line. This is different for every office, and something a broker can help you determine.

Many of these “transformational office amenities”, as Emerging Trends In Real Estate calls them, can be key to boosting office morale, retaining existing employees, attracting new talent, and lowering the overall stress within your organization.

When considering updates to your own office space, or when searching for a new one, be sure to take a moment and ask yourself what amenities you will need in order for you and your team to perform their best.

To help with your brainstorming, here are some of the most requested office amenities according to National Real Estate Investor, Emerging Trends In Real Estate, and the brokers at Crunkleton.

1) The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things refers to the network of physical devices, electronics, software, and connectivity options within an office environment. In the commercial real estate world, the availability of efficiently operating systems is greatly affecting the leasing game and will continue to do so in the future.

It’s no surprise that access to fast, reliable Wi-Fi made it to the list of most requested amenities. Simply put, employees are looking for the freedom to walk about the office space/building and be able to complete their work in a number of settings—like the break room, cafeteria, or rooftop lounge. Offering reliable Internet means providing more freedom and convenience.

Technology such as energy efficient glass that adjusts for heat, glare, and daylight is considered a part of this category. Streaming music and mobile device connectivity to office tools are also important components to consider when deciding on your own Internet of Things for the office.

2) Dedicated Creative/Brainstorming Spaces

In today’s society, many jobs can be intellectually taxing and/or require high amounts of attention and creative energy. We saw the demand for additional creative spaces come along when Millennials began to enter the workforce, and this trend isn’t going anywhere for a while.

Companies like Beats Electronics headquartered in Culver City, California took brainstorming to the next level by creating entire rooms with whiteboard walls. AppNexus also came up with a unique way to get its employees’ creative juices flowing by incorporating a “poetry room.”

Some businesses even introduce elements like hammocks, basketball hoops, or video game systems for employees to use when on break or stuck in a creative slump. There’s no set way to execute the perfect creative/brainstorming space. The possibilities are endless.

3) On-Site Fitness Centers

Perhaps one of the most effective tools used to retain and attract new talent is the incorporation of on-site fitness centers. According to Athletic Business, a 40-year old publication dedicated to the sports and fitness industry, corporate fitness facilities “increase productivity, improve employee morale, and decrease absenteeism.”

Many large companies such as Unilever went so far as to create a “Wellbeing Zone” where employees can opt for activities like yoga, massages, and stretching. Google, on the other hand, added its famous “nap pods” as a place for employees to recharge.

Whether it’s in the form of adding a treadmill and some equipment in a dedicated area or creating a space that encourages mental wellbeing, investing in employees’ health and wellness is a highly requested amenity that has been shown to provide numerous benefits.

4) Access To Food Options

According to National Real Estate Investor, many employees are requesting access to better food options when at the workplace.

When searching for an office space, it’s always important to consider what food/coffee/beverages your company will have quick access to. This need for convenient food options has led businesses to relocate to areas where food choices are more plentiful. In some cases, companies are adding “dedicated food truck days” where employees can try out lots of local grub near the office.

With the rise of multi-use developments that incorporate office spaces, it’s becoming easier for tenants to provide their employees the food options that they desire.

 5) Rooftop Lounges And Outdoor Areas

Recent studies have been conducted that seek to determine the impact that physical office environment has on employees’ wellbeing.

The Human Spaces report into The Global Impact of Biophilic Design in the Workplace stated in 2015 that “employees who work in environments with natural elements report a 15 percent higher level of well-being, are 6 percent more productive, and 15 percent more creative overall.”

This may be the reason so many workers are seeking office spaces with dedicated rooftop spaces and outdoor areas where they can decompress and reconnect with nature.

Ramp Up Your Workout At Zoom Indoor Cycling—Coming To The Avenue!

Tired of your boring workout routine? Can’t stand another minute on a treadmill? Huntsville will soon have a new way to get fit thanks to the addition of Zoom Indoor Cycling coming to The Avenue later this summer!

The indoor cycling studio will be in a 2,588 SF space next to Scout & Molly’s, a new women’s boutique that was recently announced on our blog. Husband and wife owners of Zoom, Justin and Cara Goodman, are ready to bring fun, effective workouts to the Downtown Huntsville area.

“I think people will be surprised at how fun it is to get a killer workout,” said Justin. “The studio has theatre-quality sound, the playlists are always changing, and our instructors do an incredible job at pushing people to reach their individual limits—and they’re having fun so time flies by.”

Whether you’re looking for a heart-pumping workout or just need an hour to forget your worries, Zoom has a class that will cater to your needs.

“With the dim lighting and stadium seating in the studio room, it’s an environment where everyone has the freedom to work on being their best self without worrying about feeling self-conscious,” said Justin. “Our job is to support clients and inspire them with great music and coaching. We give them a place to unplug and let go of the stress of the day. ”

Zoom will offer its signature zRide, a 45-minute full body rhythm ride, 7 days a week with convenient times throughout the day including before and after work hours.

Zoom’s classes are based on proven interval-style cardio sessions that promise an “empowering, uplifting, and entertaining” workout experience. Justin, drawing from 15 years of experience as a professional DJ, spends anywhere from 10 to 15 hours each week creating customized playlists for each class.

“We ride to the beat of the music the whole way,” said Justin. “All of our instructors bring a unique perspective to their 45-minute ride and that’s what makes the workout fit for all kinds of people.”

To keep things fun, Zoom Cycling offers themed rides, like 90s Hip Hop Throwbacks or Beyoncé vs. Justin Bieber, several times each week. Whatever the music selection, the classes are always high-energy and exhilarating.

What makes Zoom different than other indoor cycling studios?

“The entire Zoom experience is very different than what is offered at the local YMCA or box gym,” said Justin. “Our online sign-up process makes it very easy to sign up for memberships and book class online. Once you’re in our system, you can browse class times, see who the instructor is, and reserve your specific bike within each class you book.”

Best of all, there is no stress or anxiety about showing up 30 minutes prior to grab your number in the class.  Zoom’s studio is clean and calm like a high-end spa. They also provide fresh workout towels and filtered water complimentary to all clients. In the studio itself, there’s no bad seat. Bikes are arranged on stadium-style risers and each bike also has a console that displays ride information.

Students can opt-in to receive stat emails after classes by turning on their bike consoles. The machine tracks performance over time and helps clients monitor their success.

In addition to their custom class style, Zoom also spends countless hours preparing instructors to lead a class. “We typically do 3-6 months of training with each of our instructors before they ever lead a class solo,” said Justin. “It’s a rigorous process, but it’s something that helps us stand apart.”

“We try to make every class a great experience by keeping the group motivated,” said Justin. “And it’s not just about burning calories for us. Zoom is a cycling sanctuary that helps you achieve your goals both physically and mentally.”

Downtown Huntsville will be Zoom’s second location.

Justin and Cara opened the first Zoom Indoor Cycling in Charlottesville, Virginia in April 2016. Since then, business has been booming, and they decided it was time to expand. As a native of Huntsville and a fitness enthusiast, Cara quickly narrowed in on their second location.

“Cara is from Huntsville—born and raised,” said Justin. “It’s a city that we love and a place we are excited to bring our new concept to. Downtown is growing so rapidly and we wanted to be part of the exciting movement.”

The couple felt that it was perfect timing for the studio to come to Downtown Huntsville, as the area is quickly becoming a more urban space and embracing new business markets that are popular in larger cities. They chose The Avenue because it was an “exciting and innovative” project.

Justin also mentioned The Avenue developers, Charlie and Sasha Sealy, and their commitment to enhancing the downtown area as a deciding factor in location selection. Sasha thinks the addition of Zoom to The Avenue will help complete the vision for the project.

“We are excited that Zoom is expanding from Charlottesville to Huntsville and we look forward to welcoming them,” said Sasha Sealy, developer at The Avenue. “Spin studios are extremely popular in urban areas, so it’s only fitting that Zoom found its home in Downtown Huntsville. We think it will be a great fitness option for The Avenue’s residents, as well as everyone in the Rocket City.”

Zoom brings a new spin on the indoor cycling concept.

“We pride ourselves in creating an innovative, immersive indoor cycling experience,” said Justin. “We are here to inspire and motivate people at all fitness levels to push their limits. Come see us at The Avenue later this year and we guarantee a sweaty good time. First class is free to try so you have nothing to lose!”

9-Round Fitness Opens This Saturday At Twickenham Square!

DSC_0289

The wait is finally over! 9-Round Fitness, the only workout that changes every day, has no set class times, includes a free trainer and let’s you pretend to be an MMA fighter for 30 glorious minutes of your life each day, is set to open this coming weekend!

Located across from Publix and next door to Mei Wei Asian Bistro, in the Twickenham Square shopping center, 9Round will be open from 9am-Noon this coming Saturday and offering membership specials, tours and demonstrations.

Grand opening specials will include $100 off their 8-week body transformation, which includes your first 2 months of membership, championship boxing gloves, wrist wraps, a MyZone heart rate monitor and more!  The studio will also be offering 12,6 and month to month memberships as well.

“9-Round is a 30-minute total body kickboxing workout,” said owner Steve Bump “We change the workout daily so members will never get bored.”   But variety isn’t the only thing 9-Round is about, the studio also believes in accessibility, so that their clients can work out on their schedule. “There are no class times, so you can workout on your schedule whenever we are open, and a trainer is there at every workout to show you what to do at each round!”

And just to get you even more exited for opening day, we snuck over to 9-Round’s studio last week and asked a few of their professional staff trainers to do a demonstration and give us a sneak peek at the workout!

Here’s what we loved about the workout in addition to the lack of class times and variety the studio offers:

No clocks!

That’s right the space is void of clocks! All you have to guide you is a three minute timer that will sound an alarm letting you know when it’s time to move to the next round.

It’s fast!

The whole workout only takes about 30mins tops and burns around 500 calories!

You have a trainer and every round has a modification!

Never thrown a punch in your life? No problem. There are staff trainers there just to help guide you through each of the rounds and show you everything you need to know.  AND every round has a modification so you can take it as easy or hard as you want at each station!

You get a cool fighter nickname.

We know this may not be the most rational reason to love a workout, but come on’, who doesn’t want to be known as the “DaHulk”, even if it is for just 30mins each day?

After their grand opening on Saturday 9-Round will be open:
Mondays & Wednesdays: 6:00am-1:30pm and 3:30pm-8:00pm
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 8:00am-1:30pm and 3:30pm-8:00pm
Fridays: 8:00am-1:30pm and 3:30-7:00pm
Saturdays: 9:00am-12:00pm

They are located at:
309 Pelham Ave, Suite B3
Huntsville, Alabama 35801

Learn more about the 9-Round workout by reading our more in depth article HERE, or by visiting the company’s website at www.9round.com!
