Let The Battle Of The Food Truck All-Stars Begin!

1483721641597While the overwhelmingly popular Downtown Huntsville Street Food Gathering brand has been retired for 2017, Downtown Huntsville is excited to welcome a new and exciting food-centric event in its place: The Battle of the Food Truck All-Stars!

Curious how it will work?  Here’s what we know:

In just a few days, on February 9th at 6pm, the owners of 23 food trucks will gather at Yellowhammer Brewing and have 5 minutes each to present on their menu, branding, customer service and design to a panel of expert judges.

Judges for the event will include: Chefs Leonardo Maurelli III (Executive Chef of the Hotel at Auburn University) and James Boyce (Boyce Restaurant Concepts) and marketing gurus Trent Willis (Founder & CEO of Red Brick Strategies) and Lisa van der Reijden (Principal, VDR Designs).

After deliberating, the judges will select 10 food trucks to move on to the final round, and then YOU THE PEOPLE will vote for 2 more via an online poll that will open in February!

The final 12 Food Truck All-Stars will then compete twice a month from May – October at various times and locations around Downtown Huntsville to see who will be named Champion!

Here’s the current list of food trucks that will be competing for one of the final 12 spots:

It’s A Downtown Huntsville Double Feature!

Untitled-1

This weekend Downtown Huntsville and Big Spring Park is serving up a double feature of fun and entertainment!

It all starts this Friday Night at 5pm with the last Street Food Gathering on Church Street.

Making way for bigger and better things next year, this will be the last Street Food Gathering to be held Downtown on Church Street (although there will be two more gatherings this year, just not on Church Street).  So if you’re a street food pro or have never been to one, you won’t want to miss this!  In addition to over 40 food and drink vendors, Stillwater Bluegrass will be performing, Huntsville Escape Rooms will have an Escape Tent, and Orbit’s Super Shuttle will be giving tours of the shuttle and have corn hole.

Then Saturday at 6pm they’ll kick off The Hottest Weekend Of The Year Fest.

When lakes freeze up north, people polar bear dive, when it’s the hottest weekend of the year in Alabama, we eat spicy food and play outside! This year the event is sponsored by Domino’s Pizza and will include pizza, wings, a hot pepper eating contest (thanks to the Madison County Farmer’s market) a hot sauce easting contest, free water games and a rockin’ concert with bands like Motel Radio and The Flea Market Hustlers!
