Frios Gourmet Pops Opens In Downtown Huntsville!

“When we first set foot in Downtown Huntsville, we knew we had to open our store here,” said Ericka Hopkins, owner of Frios Gourmet Pops – Huntsville. “It felt like a community—one where we could be the local popsicle shop that knew everyone’s name and remembered the kids’ favorite flavors. We are thrilled to bring Frios to the Downtown area. It’s fun, nostalgia, and a quality product all-in-one.”

Located at the Garage at Clinton Row, Frios is now open and serving up the tastiest treats in town made with fresh ingredients and close-to-home flavors.

Hours for the shop are:

Monday – Thursday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday – Saturday 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday – 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“Customers can choose from about 80 different flavors,” said Ericka. “And you always know what you’re eating, because selections are based on the growing season. If we can’t get the freshest ingredients available, we won’t serve it.”

All popsicles are made from Alabama ingredients in an effort to support local farmers. Ericka and her husband Bart fell in love with the quality of Frios popsicles and contacted the company’s founder, Andy Harp, to get information about opening their own store.

“Andy has the best personality to work with,” said Ericka. “He has been with us every step of the way in making our dream a reality. Andy is determined to keep ingredients as natural as possible, and that’s something that we found very important in a business.”

Based in Gadsden, Alabama, Frios has steadily grown to over 20 storefronts located in six different states—thanks to developing relationships with local farmers and the company’s eclectic personality.

“One of the best things about Frios is its focus on helping local farms thrive,” said Ericka. “All dairy used in our pops comes from a dairy farm outside of Dothan. We also sell products that support other Alabama businesses.”

In addition to delicious gourmet pops, Frios also serves G Mommas bite-sized cookies and Fox Point Farm Goat Milk Caramels.

“G Mommas cookies come directly from Selma, and Fox Point Farm is located in Kellyton,” said Ericka. “My husband and I are very passionate about helping small Alabama businesses, so we wanted our customers to have access to some of the best the state has to offer.”

Frios appeals to visitors of all ages, whether you’re a concerned parent who wants to serve healthy ingredients or an energetic toddler who wants a frozen treat.

“I have two very active little boys,” said Ericka. “There have been many times in the late afternoon I wanted to relax for a few minutes while the kids were entertained. That’s why we have activities for them here. Kids can draw on our chalkboard, or color a popsicle drawing to enter our weekly contest.”

Frios chooses a new drawing each week and displays it for all to see while rewarding the child with a free popsicle.

Ericka said more is coming to the store to add to the fun. The shop has a wall that’s set up for photos and will be getting funny props for visitors to use soon.

“My husband and I have always loved Huntsville,” said Ericka. “And we aim to serve the highest-quality frozen treats while bringing more fun to the community. Come on in and try the banana split pop! It’s delicious.”

Huntsville’s Popular Mason Dixon Bakery and Bistro Goes Regional!

“When you become a customer, you become part of our family.” That’s the business philosophy of Ashley and Taylor Ramirez, owners and creative minds behind Huntsville’s popular Mason Dixon Bakery and Bistro. And very soon, the family will be growing. Mason Dixon will be adding a second location in the Homewood neighborhood of Birmingham!

“We are definitely excited for it,” said Ashley. “We were instantly drawn to the Homewood area, because it’s in a residential community much like the one here in Huntsville’s medical district. Maintaining a strong community involvement is something that we are very passionate about and plan on continuing with our Birmingham customers.”

Selecting the location for the expansion was done with close attention to the needs of its customers. “The mission of Mason Dixon has always been to bring convenience to allergen-friendly foods,” said Ashley. “Huntsville has fully embraced us, more than we ever imagined. But to continue our mission we need to expand. We recognized that we could fill a great need in Homewood, and it’s close enough for us to stay heavily involved with the business.”

Edgewood Station, a redeveloped service station on Oxmoor Road, will be the home of Mason Dixon in Homewood. A bit larger than its Huntsville counterpart, the Birmingham restaurant will allow for additional seating and parking for its patrons. The store is tentatively scheduled to open at the end of July 2017.

“Homewood customers can expect a modern and industrial vibe at Edgewood Station,” said Ashley. “It’s a rustic repurposing style that we think fits perfectly with the direction our business is headed. The new space will feature stained concrete floors, and we are taking down walls to the cinder blocks. We know customers are going to love it.”

Mason Dixon’s gluten-free goodies are already popular in the Birmingham area. Ashley said that several of its customers at the Huntsville location drive from “The Magic City” just to get their hands on delicious cupcakes, bread and allergen-free fare. Their enthusiasm was one thing that led to the new location and upcoming offerings.

“We are always listening to our customers,” said Ashley. “Which is why we’ve decided to serve Saturday and Sunday brunch at our Homewood location.”

If that wasn’t enough good news, the restaurant will also be expanding its coffee menu at both locations through a partnership with Honest Coffee Roasters. (The coffee shop will be adding its newest location to Downtown Huntsville at The Garage at Clinton Row soon.) Coffee lovers can officially rejoice!

“This growth is very thrilling for us,” said Ashley. “It’s always scary when you step out and do something edgy, but we’ve discovered there is a great need for what we provide. People in the area do care about what they eat, and they are willing to try new things. I think this progressive mindset will follow us to our Birmingham location.”

Mason_Dixon_Bakery_and_Bistro_HuntsvilleThanks to passion and quality food, Mason Dixon has continued to evolve. Nestled on the corner of Bob Wallace Ave. and Whitesburg Dr. in Huntsville, its flagship store has welcomed customers since 2013 and created a place where people with food allergies and dietary restrictions can indulge worry free. Locals and visitors alike have come to recognize the bakery and bistro as a haven for delectable allergen-free goods.

As their story continues in Birmingham, Ashley has just one thing to say, “I encourage Homewood to put aside any preconceived notions about gluten-free food and give us a try! We think you will be pleasantly surprised.”

Coming Soon to Huntsville: Wingstop and Wayback Burgers!

While many know the Waddell Plaza retail development on University drive as home to Mei Wei, Smoothie King, and Jersey Mike’s, Huntsville residents will soon have two new eateries to enjoy at the center: Wingstop and Wayback Burgers!

Located across the street from the Target anchored Westside Centre shopping center at the intersection of University Drive and Waddell Dr. NW, their new home at Waddell Plaza will mark the first location in the Huntsville area for both companies.

Wingstop, which first opened for business in 1994 as a small buffalo-style chicken wing restaurant in Garland, Texas has since grown to having more that 1,000 restaurants across the United States, Mexico, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia and the United Arab Emerates. The eatery specializes in fresh never faked wings, hand-cut seasoned fries and sides. With flavors ranging from Mango Habanero, to Hawaiian, Louisiana Rub and Garlic Parmesan, the company prides itself on being in the business of flavor.

Wayback Burgers, now famous for their Triple Triple burger (which contains a staggering 9 patties, 9 slices of American cheese, lettuce and tomato), was first opened as Jake’s Hamburgers in Newark, Delaware in 1991. Featuring burgers made from 100% ground beef, hand-dipped milkshakes and signature hotdogs, Wayback Burgers has built a reputation for doing things “the-way-they-used-to-be” and have become known and loved for their Burger of the Month and Milkshakes of the month, serving fun combinations such as their Ruben burger and Buffalo Mac and Cheese Burger and milkshake flavors such as Mango and Orange Creamsicle.

Both stores are set to open at the Waddell Plaza development later this year.

Winchester Commons Opens For Business In Northeast Huntsville!

jmp_4579

After announcing the development here in July of 2015,  we are excited to announce that the 8,800 square-foot Winchester Commons development located at 2190 Winchester Rd NE is finally complete and open for business in Northeast Huntsville!

Located across the street from Huntsville’s newest Walmart and adjacent to CVS Pharmacy and Publix Supermarket, Winchester Commons is currently home to Great Clips, Victoria Nails and Wilson’s Cleaners.  Local restaurant concept Beauregards (voted best wings in Huntsville in 2013, 2014 & 2015) will join the development later this year, leaving only one space left remaining in the development.

“As one of the most rapidly growing areas in Huntsville, with excellent demographics, our firm developed Winchester Commons because we believed there were opportunities being missed in the under served area of Northeast Huntsville.

All too often we see retailers clamoring to join oversaturated parts of the market instead of looking to find areas of the market with good demographics where they could make a larger impact on a community and reap the rewards.

Projects like Winchester Commons are a prime example of the dividends that this alternate approach can bring to businesses willing to be pioneers in burgeoning markets.  With excellent retail synergy between Publix, Walmart and the other retailers in the area, lines have been out the door with the just the three stores that are currently open for business in the center.

Which serves to prove that this once overlooked area of town is ready, eager, and able to support a vibrant retail community.”
